Mona’s Weekly Top 3

1 July 2011

Here’re some sites family history enthusiasts can visit this week:

1. The Philippine Embassy to the Holy See, through the efforts of Ambassador Mercedes A. Tuazon, has been granted by the City of Rome, the necessary permits to erect the new life size bronze statue of Dr. Rizal, to replace the smaller bust in the Piazzale Manila in the prestigious district of Parioli.  Contribute.

2. I am advocating the preservation of Filipno family artifacts like documents, photographs, letters, keepsakes even digital records.  So much of our families’ past can be preserved for future generations with a practical approach.  Humidity is my personal boon.  Listen to this podcast about “Securing your Genealogy”.

3. I am excited with our new “discovery” — WhatWasThere.com.  It is a site where one could plot photos of old buildings against a present day map.  The section on the Philippines is a big, empty space, so contributions are welcome.  You do not need to own the photos — just be very judicious about specifying the owner and the source.  Add your photos to the Pinoy What Was There Project!

Your Ka-Angkan,
Mona
